Nail Knowledge: HEMA-FREE & TPO-FREE

HEMA-FREE? TPO-FREE? What does it all mean?

From upcoming ingredient bans to client sensitivities, it's never been more important to understand what you're working with.

So what does HEMA-FREE mean?

HEMA = 2-Hydroxyethyl Methacrylate

A well-studied ingredient that has been used in gel systems for years.

While HEMA has raised concerns due to potential allergic reactions, the key factors are safe levels and correct usage.

If you don’t have a known HEMA allergy, you don’t necessarily need to avoid it - but HEMA-FREE options can be a great alternative for sensitive clients or cautious techs.

Reminder: Allergies can develop over time and aren't exclusive to HEMA.

And what is TPO?

TPO = Trimethylbenzoyl Diphenylphosphine Oxide

A photo-initiator that helps gel products cure under UV/LED.

TPO is considered a frequent allergen and is currently under regulatory review across several countries and is due to be banned in the UK.

At Jade UK, we’ve anticipated this change and have been working hard to reformulate our gels and launch new TPO-free shades to ensure continued safety and compliance.

Using our HEMA-FREE system? Our application guide:

Our HEMA-FREE gels are highly pigmented, long-lasting, with the same professional finish - but they do behave slightly differently.

Because HEMA contributes to adhesion, it’s important to adjust your prep and application routine when working with HEMA-FREE gels.

For Best Results:
